Wearing Kitten Heels Without Looking Like Gran
Kitten heels might have a bit of a stiff and old-fashioned reputation, for spring/summer 2017 they’re everything but boring. Thanks to Demna Gvasalia (Vêtements), Maria Grazia Chiuri (Dior) and other leading fashion designers the low heel made its return and is one of the hottest shoe styles at the moment.
As I said before, when it comes to heel height I used to be an all-or-nothing kinda girl. Heels needed to be at least 10cm, otherwise I wouldn’t wear them. Well, the kitten heel changed this vision completely. I suddenly discovered the comfort of a lower heel, which is a big (huge!) plus since I get blisters very easily.
Question is, because of that rep I described above: How to wear them without looking like your granny? Here’s what I’d recommend:
Pick a pair with a “2017 twist”
Don’t go for the ones that have a stiff look and feel, because those really are for your gran. Opt for a pair that have a modern twist to them, like an odd shaped heel or a bold colour.
Wear them with ripped denim
One of my favourite ways to wear my kitten heels is with a pair of deconstructed denim, to add a little edge that will balance out all of the old-fashioned vibes the heels might send out. Maybe add some edgy style like Cutler and Gross sunglasses.
Pick the right materials
Picking the right materials is something you should always keep in mind, but for heels like these it’s even more important. It all has to do with my first point really, because materials can make or break the look and feel of a shoe.
It’s all about contrast
If you want to make your outfit interesting contrast is key, always. Same goes for pairing kitten heels, so opt for something unexpected and perhaps a bit bold. I like wearing mine with a pair of tracksuit trousers, for example.
Tell me, what do you think of kitten heels? How would you wear them?
I will show you an outfit with the ones in the picture soon!
